However, the traditional methods of producing LNG using gas turbines are energy-intensive and contribute to significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In response, the industry is increasingly turning to eLNG - a process where electrical power can be sourced from more efficient and lower carbon footprint grids to liquify the natural gas.

LNG is natural gas cooled to -162°C so it becomes 600 times less in volume, then ideal for shipping to global customers. By using electricity instead of gas turbines - especially from renewable sources - we create eLNG: a key technology in the transition towards full electrification of the energy sector.

LNG refrigeration compressor
Historically, LNG refrigeration compressors used gas turbines. Now, electric drives power them, increasing operational efficiency, reducing CO₂ emissions, and allowing longer maintenance intervals. Our GL150 and Perfect Harmony GH150 are ideal for compressors ranging from 30-100 MW, providing reliable and efficient performance in the eLNG process.
LNG booster compressor
Booster compressors ensure the LNG process is fed at the optimum inlet pressure. Electric variable speed drives adjust compressor performance, ensuring efficient liquefaction. Our electric drives offer highest customer availability with unique cell bypass systems, ensuring efficiency and a compact footprint., supporting continued production as reservoir pressure decreases.
End flash gas & BOG compressor
At the end of liquefaction, end flash gas is produced. Using electric drives instead of turbines minimizes CO₂ emissions while maintaining process efficiency. Our electric systems ensure optimal compressor flow and efficient re-liquefaction of vaporized gas, reducing environmental impact and ensuring high reliability with minimal downtime.
LNG reliquefaction compressor
During transportation, LNG vaporizes and must be re-liquefied. Electric drives ensure efficient re-liquefaction, particularly when powered by renewable energy. Our Perfect Harmony GH150 offers optimal performance, providing high availability and reduced environmental impact in LNG transport.

Success Story: Powering the world’s first all-electric eLNG plant for 18 years

Challenge: In Hammerfest, Norway, the world’s first all-electric LNG (eLNG) mega train aimed to reduce CO₂ emissions, improve efficiency, and ensure reliable production by replacing gas turbines with a high-performance electric solution for continuous output in harsh Arctic conditions.

Solution: For nearly 20 years, we’ve powered the world’s first all-electric eLNG facility with two 65 MW refrigeration compressor drives. This scalable, high-performance solution has boosted production, reduced maintenance, optimized energy use, and significantly cut emissions, ensuring reliable, uninterrupted LNG production.
